Forest procedures in fire degraded areas of the forest1. Information about the EEA Financial Mechanism 2004-2009 The project “Forest Procedures in Fire Degraded Areas of the forest (ES-0024)” is supported by a grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Financial Mechanism 2004-2009, signed between Spain (the Beneficiary State) through the Directorate General for Community Funds of the Ministry of Economy and the Inland Revenue, and the Project Promoter (Environmental Directorate-General of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Environment). The total cost of the Project are 4.563.332 euros, being the grant rate 43,82%. The ambition of the EEA Grants is to contribute to a more equal Europe. The three donor states, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway will make available €672 million of project funding over five years to reduce social and economic disparities in Europe. Beneficiaries are organisations, NGOs, municipalities and businesses across Central and Southern Europe. Norway contributes with around 97% of the funding. 2. Project Description: The overall aims of this project are the hydrological and forestry restoration of 1385 ha. of an area burned by a wildfire happened in the municipality terms of Pinofranqueado, Nuñormoral, Caminomorisco, and Casares de las Hurdes in 2003, the improvement and conservation of roads, the construction of forest fires infrastructure for forest fires prevention and suppression, and the creation of recreational areas. The plant cover regeneration process consists in the site preparation (pre planting silvicultural practices), plantation with pines and oaks species, and pos reforestation practices (bush clearing around the seedling, dead plants replacement, and grass vegetation tillage), in order to accelerate the recovery of the burned area and the regeneration of species-rich forest ecosystem.
